BLOHM to showcase the versatile PROFIMAT XT at IMTS 2022

BLOHM, makers of difference-making surface and creep feed grinding machines, brought a sterling example of their product line to the IMTS 2022 show floor: the BLOHM PROFIMAT XT. This robust, high-performance grinding machine is ideal for a wide variety of applications that require high metal removal rates. It combines exceptional rigidity and power with fast axis speeds for exceptional grinding productivity.

Table speeds greater than 1,500 IPM, along with a quick changeover wheel dresser system and improved acceleration/deceleration rates, offer optimal positioning speeds and short cycle times. Optional features include table dresser systems, HSK wheel flanges and a linear drive table to produce reciprocal grinding speeds up to 3,000 IPM for fine surface finishes. Additional grinding advances include dual left and right coolant nozzles with the RazorTec® wheel cleaning system.

Applying spindle power up to 80 hp with grinding wheel widths up to 8”, the BLOHM PROFIMAT XT excels at machining large parts with high stock removal requirements. The machine's speed improvements increase axis movement by 100 percent and acceleration/deceleration by 200 percent, enabling overall grinding cycle time reductions of up to 30 percent thanks to fully optimized positioning. To improve stiffness, BLOHM introduced a ribbed base and column casting with dual ballscrews for Z-axis cross-grinding stability.

The machine is equipped with a Siemens SINUMERIK 840D sl control that features a touch screen monitor and Windows-based graphical user interface. UNITED GRINDING customized this advanced human-machine interface (HMI) to provide grinding process data, machine health monitoring, operational efficiency and graphical product information.

Other notable BLOHM products not on display at IMTS include the PLANOMAT XT, a machine built for grinding complex shapes in a wide variety of demanding materials, including turbine blades and vanes, pump rotors, rocker arms, woodchipper blades and much more. Available in five sizes with grinding ranges from 400 x 800 mm (15.75" x 31.5") to 600 x 2000 mm (3.62" x 78.74"), these modular machines offer the flexibility and precision for applications from single parts to complex workpieces, with maximum workpiece weights of 800 kg (1,672 lbs).

Another notable world-class grinding machine from BLOHM not on display at IMTS is the PLANOMAT XT Essential, a 3-axis entry-level model with high precision at the forefront. The specs that are packed into each Essential are robust and reliable enough to deliver efficient surface and profile grinding operations day in and day out. The 400 x 800 mm (15.75” x 31.5”) table size and 1,500 kg (3,307 lbs) maximum workpiece weight welcome many of the most challenging (and lucrative) aerospace components, among many others. The 11 kW, 3500 RPM standard spindle drive is an excellent fit for shops focused on high precision surface and profile grinding.
