Revolution in the Offshore Industry: ROBOZE Industrial 3D Printer Transforms On-Demand Component Production Onboard the FPSO SKARV
The collaboration between three key players SKARV – AKER BP, BIESTERFELD NORGE AS and ROBOZE, adds a new milestone in the context of the digital transition of the offshore industry with the implementation of industrial 3D printing for on-site and on-demand production of components and spare parts.
Bari, Italy – September 07th, 2023
At the heart of digital transformation, the offshore industry marks a major step forward with the installation of the ROBOZE PLUS PRO 3D printer onboard the FPSO SKARV, a floating platform specially designed for mining, processing, temporary storage and transfer of oil and gas extracted from the Skarv field in the northern part of Norway.
Offshore installations require parts being available at the time replacement works take place during planned and unplanned maintenance repairs. Extended shutdowns due to lack of spare parts result in very high costs, but storage space is limited and costly as well. Production of spare parts locally with ROBOZE's industrial 3D printing technology can therefore play an important role by keeping only raw material on stock and print the spare parts when needed.
To illustrate the value of this innovative solution, ROBOZE has created a video documenting the key moments of the collaboration with the other players involved: BIESTERFELD NORGE AS (former Lindberg & Lund AS), a company operating in the sector of distribution and trade of chemical and plastic products in Norway and reseller of ROBOZE solutions, and AKER BP, a Norwegian company that focuses on the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources both in Norway and in some international areas. The video highlights the crucial role of the ROBOZE PLUS PRO 3D printer in the production of components with super polymers and reinforced composite materials for the offshore industry and illustrates how this technology is redefining the way challenges are faced in extreme environments. Speaking of challenges, corrosion is a main contributor to shutdowns of oil & gas installations. This risk can be reduced by increasing the use of polymer components.
Manufacturing components directly on the FPSO SKARV represents a paradigm shift in the approach to maintenance and offshore supply management. This innovation not only increases operational efficiency, but also reduces environmental impact through waste reduction and on-site production.
This pioneering project lays the foundations for future applications of industrial 3D printing in the sector, confirming ROBOZE's commitment to driving digital transformation through advanced and revolutionary solutions.
