The VC-8000 monitoring system has been chosen as the factory-fit protection for a series of steam turbine generating units manufactured by one of the largest manufacturers worldwide.

The OEM agreement encompasses machines ranging from 350 MW to 1000 MW, designed for subcritical, supercritical, and ultra-supercritical steam conditions. The supercritical and ultra-supercritical steam turbines feature single and double-intermediate reheat cycles for both condensing and extraction/back pressure applications. These turbines are utilized in gas-steam combined-cycle power plants, combined cooling, heating and power cogeneration plants, as well as in traditional gas-fired and coal-fired thermal power plants. The subcritical steam turbines are primarily employed in the nuclear power industry.

Brüel & Kjær Vibro will supply sensors and the VC-8000 monitoring system to protect these steam turbines. The cost-effective VSI MEMS sensor was selected for its optimal low-frequency range sensitivity.

What types of steam turbines will the VC-8000 monitoring system protect?

Additionally, Brüel & Kjær Vibro and the machine manufacturer are negotiating a similar protection package for the company's heavy-duty F-class industrial gas turbines. Approximately 20 steam turbine generating units will be produced each year with the installed sensors and VC-8000.
