Control options: Siemens, Fanuc, or Heidenhain CNC systems available.

  • New platform: MODIG launches the MTX, a 5-axis universal machining center for aerospace manufacturing.
  • Part envelope: Handles parts up to 118 inches (3,000 mm) diameter, 76.8 inches (1,950 mm) tall, 18,739 pounds (8,500 kg).
  • Cycle-time gains: Rapids up to 2,400 inches per minute (60 m/min) with 23 feet per second squared (7 m/s²) acceleration.
  • Process advantage: Single-setup machining improves accuracy, reliability, and part-to-part quality.

MODIG has introduced the MTX, a new generation of 5-axis universal machining centers aimed at aerospace manufacturing.

Built for large, complex parts

The MTX accommodates components up to 118 inches (3,000 mm) in diameter, 76.8 inches (1,950 mm) in height, and 18,739 pounds (8,500 kg) in weight. Powerful electrospindles pair with torque-motor-driven A-axis or B-axis tilting heads, giving smooth, continuous 5-axis capability for multi-surface geometries and deep-cavity features.

Speed without sacrificing finish

High-speed linear axes deliver rapid movements up to 2,400 inches per minute (60 m/min) and acceleration of 23 feet per second squared (7 m/s²), cutting non-cut time while keeping motion vibration-controlled. The machine accepts Siemens, Fanuc, or Heidenhain CNC controls, easing integration into existing shops.

The bigger story for production planners: the MTX completes complex machining in a single setup, reducing part handling and fixture count while improving accuracy, process reliability, and part-to-part consistency. MODIG positions it for next-generation aerospace programs.

M4S Take:: Compared with the previous generation of universal machining centers, the MTX's pitch is consolidation: one setup instead of multiple fixtures and handoffs. For shops running large aerospace structural and engine components, that translates directly into fewer tolerance stack-ups and less queue time between operations. The control flexibility is a practical bonus for mixed fleets.
