Redesigned mounting: A new kinematic mount supports longer probe configurations, improving access to features deep inside parts.
- Longer reach: The PH20 PLUS offers over 50% more inspection reach than the original PH20 head, with a maximum working length of up to 300 mm using a 50 mm stylus.
- Backwards compatibility: The system works with existing TP20 probe modules (excluding the extended force module) via the PB20 adaptor, and integrates with the UCC controller.
- Automated changing: A new modular rack system on an MRS2 rail supports automatic and repeatable probe module changing, with the PCR20 rack as a standalone option.
- Proven lineage: The PH20 PLUS builds on the PH20 system launched in 2010, which used head motion technology from the REVO® 5-axis measurement system, and will be demonstrated at IMTS 2026.
Renishaw is introducing the PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), a successor to its long-serving PH20 head that delivers over 50% more inspection reach. The target: features deep inside parts and hard-to-access areas that the original head simply could not get to.
Building on a proven platform
The original PH20 touch-trigger system, launched in 2010, drew on head motion technology from the REVO® 5-axis measurement system. The PH20 PLUS keeps that foundation and adds a redesigned kinematic mount that supports longer probe configurations. The practical payoff is substantial: with a 50 mm stylus, the PH20 PLUS head offers a maximum working length of up to 300 mm — an increase of 107 mm over its predecessor.
"With PH20 PLUS, we've focused on extending capability which we think will appeal to both existing PH20 customers and those with measurement requirements which could previously not be met by the existing head," said Nathan Fielder, Product Manager at Renishaw.
Protecting existing investment
Compatibility was clearly a design priority. The PH20 PLUS system works with the existing range of TP20 probe modules, excluding the extended force module, and existing modules can be used via the PB20 adaptor. New PE20 modules, built around a larger kinematic mount, interface directly with the head. The system is also fully compatible with Renishaw's UCC controller, positioning it as a drop-in replacement rather than a disruptive upgrade.
Automated module changing
Supporting the head is a new modular rack system for automatic and repeatable probe module changing. It mounts to an MRS2 rail and accommodates both TP20 and PE20 modules, while the powered PCR20 rack offers a standalone option for holding multiple modules and accessories.
Seeing it in person
For shops that have invested years into PH20-based part programmes, the pitch is straightforward: more reach, no starting over.
