Trade show debut: Demonstrations are planned for IMTS 2026 at Quality Assurance booths 134314 and 134524.

  • Extended reach: The PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system offers over 50% more inspection reach than the original PH20 head, with a maximum working length of up to 300 mm using a 50 mm stylus.
  • Redesigned mechanics: A new kinematic mount supports longer probe configurations, adding 107 mm of reach for features deep inside parts.
  • Protected investment: Compatibility with existing TP20 probe modules (via the PB20 adaptor) and the UCC controller makes the system a drop-in replacement.
  • Proven lineage: The system builds on the PH20, launched in 2010 with head motion technology from the REVO® 5-axis measurement system.

Renishaw is introducing the PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), a direct replacement for its established PH20 head. The headline figure: with a 50 mm stylus, the PH20 PLUS head offers a maximum working length of up to 300 mm from the centre of the A-axis — an increase of over 50% compared with the original system.

For metrology teams wrestling with features deep inside parts or tucked into hard-to-access areas, that extra reach is the entire point of the product.

Building on a Proven Platform

The original PH20 touch-trigger system was launched in 2010 and utilizes head motion technology developed for the REVO® 5-axis measurement system. The PH20 PLUS builds on that foundation rather than replacing it wholesale.

The key mechanical change is a redesigned kinematic mount that supports longer probe configurations, delivering an additional 107 mm of reach. The system also introduces PE20 modules, while maintaining compatibility with the existing range of TP20 modules — excluding the extended force module. Existing TP20 probe modules can be used via the PB20 adaptor, so customers can keep their current hardware.

"With PH20 PLUS, we've focused on extending capability which we think will appeal to both existing PH20 customers and those with measurement requirements which could previously not be met by the existing head," said Nathan Fielder, Product Manager at Renishaw.

Upgrade Path Without the Pain

Backwards compatibility is clearly a design priority. The PH20 PLUS system can be configured to match the effective working length of existing PH20 system installations, simplifying upgrade and replacement decisions. It is also fully compatible with Renishaw's UCC controller and integrates in the same way as the original PH20 system — a genuine drop-in replacement for existing CMM installations.

A new modular rack system has been developed to support automatic and repeatable probe module changing with the PH20 PLUS head, mounting to an MRS2 rail.
