Automation support: A new modular rack system enables automatic and repeatable probe module changing.

  • Extended reach: The PH20 PLUS offers over 50% more inspection reach than the original PH20 head, with a maximum working length of up to 300 mm using a 50 mm stylus.
  • Redesigned mount: A new kinematic mount supports longer probe configurations, adding 107 mm of reach for hard-to-access features.
  • Backwards compatibility: The system works with existing TP20 modules and Renishaw's UCC controller, protecting prior tooling investment.

Renishaw has introduced the PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), announced in September 2026. The headline figure: over 50% increase in inspection reach compared to the original PH20 head — a spec that matters for anyone who has struggled to probe features buried deep inside a part.

More reach, same proven platform

The PH20 PLUS system features a redesigned kinematic mount that supports longer probe configurations. With a 50 mm stylus, the head provides a maximum working length of up to 300 mm from the centre of the A-axis. The practical payoff is an additional 107 mm of reach, expanding the accessible measurement volume without compromising usability.

That extra reach is the story here. Deep internal features and hard-to-access areas that previously demanded workarounds — or simply couldn't be measured with the existing head — now fall within range.

Renishaw is positioning the new head for both camps: current users and those whose requirements were previously out of scope.

"With PH20 PLUS, we've focused on extending capability which we think will appeal to both existing PH20 customers and those with measurement requirements which could previously not be met by the existing head," said Nathan Fielder, Product Manager at Renishaw.

Protecting existing tooling investment

Compatibility is where the PH20 PLUS earns its "drop-in" credentials. The system maintains compatibility with the existing range of TP20 modules, allowing customers to keep current hardware and established stylus configurations. The PH20 PLUS system is also fully compatible with Renishaw's UCC controller, integrating the same way as the original PH20 — meaning existing part programmes carry over.

Automated module changing

A new modular rack system has been developed to support automatic and repeatable probe module changing with the PH20 PLUS head, keeping throughput high when switching between configurations.
