Renishaw has introduced the PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system for CMMs, delivering over 50% increase in inspection reach over the original PH20 head through a redesigned kinematic mount supporting longer probe configurations. The system stays compatible with existing TP20 probe modules via the PB20 adaptor, adds PE20 modules and a modular rack for automated changing, and integrates with the UCC controller as a direct replacement. It was launched in September 2026 and will be shown at IMTS 2026.

Renishaw has replaced its long-running PH20 touch-trigger head with a new system built for deeper part access.

Longer probes, more accessible features

The PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) offers over 50% increase in inspection reach compared with the original PH20 head. The gain comes from a redesigned kinematic mount that supports longer and heavier probe configurations, adding 107 mm of reach. With a 50 mm stylus, the PH20 PLUS head offers a maximum working length of up to 300 mm, improving access to features deep inside parts and hard-to-reach areas.

"With PH20 PLUS, we've focused on extending capability which we think will appeal to both existing PH20 customers and those with measurement requirements which could previously not be met by the existing head," said Nathan Fielder, Product Manager at Renishaw.

The original PH20 touch-trigger system, launched in 2010, uses head motion technology from the REVO® 5-axis measurement system. The new head is designed as a direct replacement and is fully compatible with Renishaw's UCC controller, integrating in the same way as the original system.

Compatibility protects existing tooling

The PH20 PLUS system maintains compatibility with the existing range of TP20 probe modules, excluding the extended force module, with existing modules usable via the PB20 adaptor. New PE20 modules based on the TP20 probe system provide a direct interface with the head. A new modular rack system supports automated probe module changing, mounting to an MRS2 rail, while the powered PCR20 rack offers a standalone option.

M4S Take:

  • For shops already running PH20 heads, this is a low-friction upgrade: existing TP20 probe modules carry over via the PB20 adaptor, so tooling spend is protected.
  • The extra 107 mm of reach matters most on deep-bore and internal-feature work that previously forced fixturing compromises or slower probing strategies.
  • If a current PH20 installation is working fine, the case for switching is access, not speed. Quote the upgrade against the parts you are currently turning away or measuring awkwardly.
