Renishaw has announced the launch of its XC100 environmental compensator, set to debut at IMTS 2026 and AMB 2026. The new unit builds on the company's proven XC-80 technology and delivers real-time automatic wavelength correction, achieving an improved 0.4 ppm linear laser measurement accuracy.
Building on Proven Technology
Environmental drift has long been the enemy of precision laser calibration. Air temperature, pressure, and humidity all shift the laser wavelength mid-measurement — and a machine that's warm at the spindle and cool at the column rarely behaves like a machine at standard temperature.
The XC100 attacks both problems directly. It measures air temperature, air pressure, and relative humidity, then automatically adjusts the measured laser wavelength in real time. It also measures material temperature, which means calibration results from machines operating at different temperatures can be normalised to a standard temperature. That's a meaningful capability for anyone comparing results across machines, shifts, or seasons.
Compatibility Across the Calibration Range
The XC100 is designed to slot into existing Renishaw workflows. It is compatible with the XL-80 laser interferometer, the XM-60 and XM-600 multi-axis calibrators, and CARTO software — covering much of the company's calibration product range without forcing users to change their established setups.
Flexibility extends to the hardware itself. The XC100 supports any combination of air and material sensors, enabling comprehensive measurement of environmental conditions throughout the machine volume. A high-resolution LCD touchscreen display, flexible sensor configuration, and versatile mounting features round out the package, letting users adapt the system to a range of calibration applications rather than the other way around.
