CNC Technology, a precision engineering subcontract specialist based in the West Midlands, has expanded its turning capacity by investing in a new DN Solutions Puma GT 3100 two-axis, box guideway lathe from Mills CNC. This investment was prompted by a significant increase in demand from a long-standing oil and gas customer for high-precision machined components used in corrosion monitoring equipment. The new lathe, installed in January 2025 at CNC Technology's facility in Cradley Heath, has been specifically selected to handle the demanding requirements of machining complex parts from difficult materials such as Inconel alloys and superalloys.
The Puma GT 3100 is equipped with a 22kW/2,800rpm high-torque spindle, a 12-station servo-driven turret, and a live-centre (MT5) tailstock. It also features the advanced Fanuc 0iTP control with a 15” iHMI touchscreen. Additional options include a parts catcher with a conveyor, an auto tool setter, and a FilterMist extraction unit. The machine offers a substantial turning length of 790mm and a turning diameter of 525mm, making it well-suited for the large batch sizes now required by CNC Technology's customer. The increased capacity is necessary to meet the new order, which calls for batch sizes of 300-off components, a significant jump from the previous one- and two-off quantities.
