Design change: A redesigned kinematic mount supports longer probe configurations, adding 107 mm of reach.
- Reach extended: The PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system offers over 50% more inspection reach than the original PH20 head, with up to 300 mm working length using a 50 mm stylus.
- Backwards compatibility: Existing TP20 probe modules work via the PB20 adaptor, and the system integrates with Renishaw's UCC controller as a drop-in replacement.
- Automation support: A new modular rack system, including the powered PCR20 rack and MRS2 rail mounting, enables automatic and repeatable probe module changing.
Renishaw has introduced the PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), a direct replacement for the established PH20 head. The headline figure: over 50% more inspection reach than the original system, with a maximum working length of up to 300 mm from the centre of the A-axis when fitted with a 50 mm stylus.
More Reach, Same Foundation
The gain comes from a redesigned kinematic mount in the A-axis, which supports longer probe configurations than the original head could manage. The result is an additional 107 mm of reach — a meaningful expansion of the accessible measurement volume for features deep inside parts.
The PH20 PLUS builds on the measurement approach of the PH20, launched in 2010, which drew on the head motion technology developed for the REVO® 5-axis measurement system.
"With PH20 PLUS, we've focused on extending capability which we think will appeal to both existing PH20 customers and those with measurement requirements which could previously not be met by the existing head," said Nathan Fielder, Product Manager at Renishaw.
Protecting Existing Investment
Upgrade friction looks low. The PH20 PLUS maintains compatibility with the existing range of TP20 probe modules, which can be used via the PB20 adaptor. New PE20 modules feature a larger kinematic mount for direct interface with the new head. The system is also fully compatible with Renishaw's UCC controller and integrates in the same way as the original PH20.
Rack System for Automated Changing
A new modular rack system supports automatic and repeatable probe module changing. It mounts to an MRS2 rail, while the powered PH20 PLUS PCR20 rack provides a standalone option for holding multiple probe modules and accessories.
Visitors to IMTS 2026 will be able to see the system demonstrated, with Renishaw staff available at the Quality Assurance booths 134314 and 134524.
