This expansion highlights the growing role of drone delivery in meeting consumer demand for rapid, convenient service. The partnership between Wing and Walmart showcases a practical, scalable model for urban and suburban logistics.
- Over one million commercial deliveries completed to date
- Planned expansion to reach 40 million Americans by 2027
- Drones fly at 60 MPH and deliver within 30 minutes
- Service available in nearly 20 U.S. markets
- Integration with Walmart’s e-commerce platform for seamless ordering
- The success of this initiative could set a precedent for other retailers and logistics providers, potentially transforming last-mile delivery across the industry.
Problem As e-commerce continues to grow, retailers face increasing pressure to meet customer expectations for rapid delivery. Traditional logistics models struggle to satisfy the demand for same-day or even within-the-hour delivery, particularly for small, lightweight items. This challenge is compounded by the need for sustainable and cost-effective solutions that can scale across diverse urban and suburban environments.
Solution Wing Aviation LLC and Walmart have announced a significant expansion of their drone delivery partnership, targeting seven new metropolitan areas: Memphis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Salt Lake City. This move will bring their total service footprint to nearly 20 U.S. markets by leveraging Wing’s advanced drone technology and Walmart’s extensive store network.
Wing’s drones, capable of flying at speeds up to 60 MPH, use a tether system to deliver packages directly to customers' yards or driveways within 30 minutes. This rapid delivery capability addresses the growing demand for immediate access to goods, ranging from last-minute groceries to electronics and household essentials.
“Our work with Walmart has shown that drone delivery isn’t just a novelty, it’s a service many customers count on multiple times per week,” said Heather Rivera, Wing’s chief business officer.
Before launching in each new city, Wing and Walmart will engage with local communities to demonstrate the benefits and safety of their delivery system. The system is designed to serve a variety of locations, including single-family homes, apartment buildings, and commercial zones.
Results The expansion builds on Wing’s existing operations in cities like Dallas, where deliveries began in December 2024, and Atlanta, which started in December 2025. To date, Wing and Walmart have completed over one million commercial drone deliveries, demonstrating the viability and scalability of this delivery method.
Customers in eligible areas will see the drone delivery option in the Walmart app or website, based on their account address. They can also use the Wing app to place orders directly. This integration with Walmart’s existing e-commerce platform provides a seamless experience for customers who prioritize speed and convenience.
Walmart is also collaborating with other drone providers, such as Zipline, which launched its first P2 drone site at Walmart stores in Mesquite and Waxahachie, Texas, last year. This multi-partner approach underscores Walmart’s commitment to diversifying its delivery options and meeting the varied needs of its customer base.
“Customers expect their orders on their terms, delivered with speed and ease,” said Greg Cathey, senior vice president of eCommerce fulfillment transformation, Walmart U.S.
