Target applications: The S150 is aimed at microfluidics, fiber optics, biomedical devices, electronics, and advanced materials research.

  • European expansion: Boston Micro Fabrication (BMF) will debut the microArch S150 3D printer at Formnext in Frankfurt, following its North American live debut at RAPID + TCT in April.
  • Core specifications: The desktop-friendly system delivers 25µm optical resolution and 10–100µm layer thicknesses using BMF's Projection Micro Stereolithography (PµSL) technology.
  • Leadership and roadmap: Ferrand assumed the President role in July leadership changes, and BMF has teased a 2-10µm dual-resolution 3D printer in 2026.

Boston Micro Fabrication (BMF) is bringing its microArch S150 3D printer to the European market, with a live debut planned at Formnext in Frankfurt. For a company marking its ten-year anniversary, the move signals confidence that micro-precision additive manufacturing is ready for a broader — and more accessible — stage.

Compact hardware, serious resolution

The microArch S150 is built on BMF's Projection Micro Stereolithography (PµSL) technology and delivers 25µm optical resolution with layer thicknesses from 10–100µm. BMF describes the system as "desktop-friendly" — a notable positioning choice for hardware operating at this resolution class.

The target applications tell the real story: microfluidics, fiber optics, biomedical devices, electronics, and advanced materials research. These are domains where feature resolution is not a marketing bullet point but a functional requirement, and where a compact platform lowers the barrier to entry considerably.

The S150 is not an untested prototype being shown under glass. It made its North American live debut at RAPID + TCT in April, meaning the Frankfurt appearance extends an already-running launch rather than starting one.

Ten years in, a leadership transition underway

The European debut lands at a moment of reflection and transition for BMF.

"Reaching our tenth anniversary is an important milestone for BMF and gives us an opportunity to reflect on how far micro-precision 3D printing has come, as well as where it can go next. The S150 is a great example of that progress, bringing industrial-grade micro-precision capabilities to a compact, accessible platform."

That next phase will be steered by a changed leadership team. BMF announced a series of leadership changes in July, with Ferrand assuming the role of President.

What comes after 25µm?

BMF has already signaled where it wants to go next. The company previously teased a new 2-10µm dual-resolution 3D printer in 2026 — a system that would push well beyond the S150's optical resolution if it materializes. For now, the European debut in Frankfurt is the concrete deliverable, and engineers attending Formnext will be able to judge the desktop micro-precision proposition firsthand.
