GKN Aerospace Commits $16 Million to Triple North Charlestown Facility, Adds Compressor Blade and Vane Production Cell

GKN Aerospace is investing $16 million in its North Charlestown, New Hampshire facility — a move that will add approximately 57,000 square feet and triple the site's current size. At the center of the expansion: a production cell dedicated to high-performance compressor blades and vanes, components where the investment reflects growing market demand for complex aero-engine parts.

A capacity play, not just a footprint play

The upgraded facility will support current production while positioning GKN Aerospace for future engine platform opportunities. Just as notable, the company is strategically insourcing key manufacturing processes to enhance production agility — bringing critical steps back under its own roof rather than depending on external capacity.

The expansion also creates operational synergies with GKN Aerospace's Muncie, Indiana site, tying the New Hampshire operation into a broader U.S. manufacturing network. New skilled jobs in the region will follow the investment.

Leadership perspective

Alexander Andersson, SVP Product Solutions, framed the expansion as a supply chain decision as much as a real estate one:

"We are investing in engine component manufacturing capabilities where our customers need us most. This expansion in the U.S. strengthens our capacity in a critical area of the supply chain and reinforces our position as a trusted partner on key engine programs."

State officials echoed the regional significance. Steve Fortier, Administrator of Rural Economic Development, Department of Business and Economic Affairs, said:
