InOrbit Inc. has released OpenRobOps, an open-source robot operations and fleet management software designed to support scaled deployments and bridge the interoperability gap between heterogeneous robot fleets. The Mountain View, Calif.-based company, which claims to be a leader in enterprise robot orchestration software and spatial intelligence, positions the release as a production-grade open foundation that lets robotics developers skip years of infrastructure work.
Escaping the Back-End Grind
The pitch is straightforward: stop rebuilding the plumbing. OpenRobOps is intended to save robotics developers from reinventing base functions such as fleet telemetry, monitoring, and recovery logic.

Standards Alignment From Day One
The headline technical claim is standards compliance. OpenRobOps includes a reference implementation of the upcoming ISO 21423 standard for industrial mobile robots and fleet managers — a notable move for teams that want interoperability built in rather than bolted on later.

For end users, InOrbit Space Intelligence — a separate paid offering — can orchestrate robots compatible with OpenRobOps, giving the open-source layer a commercial upgrade path.
The ROS Comparison
Steve Cousins, executive director of the Stanford Robotics Center, member of the InOrbit.AI board of directors, and former CEO of Willow Garage, drew a direct parallel to one of robotics' most consequential open-source projects.
"When we created ROS, our mission was to give roboticists an open ecosystem so they could stop re-inventing basic device drivers," Cousins said.
"OpenRobOps creates the same shift for robot operations and fleet management, while also enabling standards-based interoperability," he said.
