From pilot project to in-house capability
Matthäi Schlüsselfertigbau has launched a construction 3D printing division, moving from a single printed building project to an internal business capability. The division was established after the completion of a new two-story headquarters in Selsingen, Lower Saxony, built using COBOD's BOD2 construction 3D printer.
The move matters because it ties the technology to an operating construction group rather than treating it as a one-off demonstration. Matthäi brings scale: over 3,300 employees and more than 1 billion EUR in revenue.
How the Selsingen building was produced
The headquarters provides 364 m² of usable space, with 170 m² on the ground floor and 194 m² on the first floor. The building measures around 7.4 m high, 22.5 m long, and 13.5 m deep.
PERI 3D Construction acted as the technology partner and supervisor during the printing phase. The walls of the building were printed in about 105 hours using Holcim's TectorPrint material. The foundation, base slab, floors, and roof were built using conventional methods, a reminder that construction 3D printing here was integrated into a hybrid build process rather than replacing every trade.
The building's form and facade were designed by the architectural office Schulenburg and planning firm Mense-Korte.
