NVIDIA Corp has launched the Jetson Orin Nano 2, a new entry-level computer designed for edge AI applications. This release aims to empower millions of developers to create advanced AI systems for robotics and smart devices, focusing on real-time intelligence and energy efficiency.
Unprecedented AI Compute Capabilities
The Jetson Orin Nano 2 is engineered to deliver significant advancements in AI and video processing. It boasts 78 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of AI compute, 8GB of memory, and an eight-core Arm CPU. This configuration allows the system to double the inference performance of its predecessor, the Jetson Orin Nano Super, while maintaining a compact form factor.
"Jetson Orin Nano 2 delivers a significant leap in AI and video processing performance in a cost-effective, power-efficient system," said NVIDIA.
Enhanced Energy Efficiency
One of the standout features of the Jetson Orin Nano 2 is its improved energy efficiency. In 15-watt mode, the device consumes 40% less power than its predecessor while delivering the same peak-to-peak performance. This enhancement is crucial for developers aiming to create autonomous systems that require sustained operation without frequent recharging.

Expanding the AI Ecosystem
NVIDIA's open software stack, which can run on the Nano 2, is built on the same GPU architecture as data centers, ensuring compatibility and scalability. This allows developers to leverage existing tools and frameworks, making the transition to the new platform smoother.
The Jetson Orin Nano 2 is part of NVIDIA's "three-computer, full-stack" approach to robotics, which includes Omniverse with Cosmos for simulation, DJX for training, and Jetson as the "robot brain" for runtime deployment. This comprehensive ecosystem supports a wide range of AI models, including large language models (LLMs) and vision language models (VLMs).

Several companies are already evaluating or using the Jetson Orin Nano 2 for various applications:
- Matic Robots: This company is utilizing the Jetson Orin Nano 2 to enable more intuitive interactions with its home cleaning robots, incorporating conversational AI, gesture detection, and precision mapping.

NVIDIA anticipates that its technology will drive advancements in generalized navigation, dexterous manipulation, and overall robot autonomy. The Jetson Orin Nano 2 module and developer kit are expected to be available in the first half of 2027.
