Siemens Opens Electrification and Automation Factory in Egypt, Shifting from Delivery to Local Manufacturing

Siemens has inaugurated a new Electrification and Automation factory in Egypt, a move that transitions the company's role in the country from delivering technology to manufacturing it locally. The inauguration drew senior Egyptian government officials, including Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, alongside senior leadership from Siemens AG.

What the factory will build

The facility will produce switchgear, substation controls, protection systems, and embedded cybersecurity technologies.

Policy alignment and local supply chains

The investment supports Egypt's National Industry Strategy (2024–2030) and follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Siemens and the Industrial Development Authority in September 2024. Manufacturing in-country is expected to create local value and support Egypt's ambition to become a regional hub for advanced industry, with relevance extending to North Africa and the broader African continent.

Training alongside production

The Siemens Power Academy is co-located with the factory and offers training programs aimed at building the skills needed to design, operate, and maintain advanced energy infrastructure. The facility also gives customers exposure to digital twin and IoT-based solutions for energy applications.

A long relationship, a new phase

Siemens has been present in Egypt for 125 years, a history that includes contributions to infrastructure and the establishment of the Middle East's first Industry 4.0 Innovation Center in Egypt's New Administrative Capital. The new factory represents the next step: localizing production of critical energy technologies rather than importing them.

For manufacturing professionals, the signal is straightforward — localization of switchgear, protection, and control systems is becoming a strategic priority in fast-growing energy markets, and workforce development is being built into the factory footprint from day one.
