Twelve years in, the partnership between Stratasys and Limbitless Solutions is shifting emphasis. The two organizations are expanding their collaboration around sustainability, education, and increasing access to 3D-printed prosthetics for children — a mission that has already delivered hundreds of devices to children across the United States and beyond.

A partnership built on donated capability

Limbitless Solutions, a non-profit research facility at the University of Central Florida, has worked with Stratasys since the organization's earliest days. Over that time, Stratasys has donated materials, additive manufacturing technology, and engineering expertise, enabling the non-profit to produce end-use components, thermoform moulds, and prototype parts.

The arrangement goes beyond equipment loans. A dedicated Limbitless lab at the University of Central Florida is equipped with multiple Stratasys systems, giving students hands-on experience with 3D printing while supporting the production pipeline behind the prosthetics program. For engineering students, that kind of access to production-grade hardware is difficult to replicate elsewhere.

Refurbishment as strategy

This year, the partners placed a greater focus on sustainability. Stratasys donated one of its Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) F370 3D printers to support ongoing operations, student education, and community outreach. The CPO program extends the working life of additive manufacturing equipment through factory-certified refurbishment and redeployment — a model that keeps capable machines in service rather than in the waste stream.

The framing matters for manufacturing professionals watching the secondary equipment market. Refurbishment of high-performing systems reduces waste while putting proven hardware into the hands of organizations that might otherwise be priced out.

From a phone call to a decade of output

The partnership traces back to Albert Manero's time in graduate school.
