Renishaw PH20 PLUS stretches touch-trigger inspection reach to 300 mm

Renishaw has introduced the PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), timed for September 2026. The headline figure is reach: the new head offers an increase of over 50% in inspection reach compared with the original PH20 head, aimed at features that sit deep inside parts or in awkward, hard-to-access areas.

Longer probes, same measurement discipline

The gain comes from hardware, not software sleight of hand. The PH20 PLUS system carries a redesigned kinematic mount that supports longer probe configurations, and with a 50 mm stylus the head delivers a maximum working length of up to 300 mm. For shops that have standardised on touch-trigger measurement, that extra working length is the difference between signing off a deep feature and repositioning the part.

The engineering pitch is straightforward: extend capability without forcing users to relearn their measurement approach.

Protecting the installed base

Renishaw is clearly courting its existing users rather than asking them to start over. The PH20 PLUS system maintains compatibility with the existing range of TP20 probe modules, so current tooling does not become obsolete overnight. Alongside the head, a new modular rack system has been developed to support automatic and repeatable probe module changing with the PH20 PLUS head — a nod to throughput-minded CMM cells where manual swaps cost cycle time.

Integration is similarly conservative. The PH20 PLUS system is fully compatible with Renishaw's UCC controller, keeping the controls architecture familiar for current installations.
