Mills CNC has announced the introduction of the second-generation DN Solutions DVF 5000 simultaneous 5-axis machining centres to the UK and Irish markets. Available from May 2025, this new series builds on the success of its predecessor with enhanced accuracies, faster processing speeds, and increased machining flexibility, setting a new standard for one-hit machining.

The second-generation DVF 5000 series offers significant improvements in processing speeds. With faster X-, Y-, and Z-axis rapids of 42m/min and acceleration/deceleration rates of 0.4g, combined with increased B- and C-axis rotation speeds of 25rpm, the machines achieve impressive Tool-to-Tool changeover times of 1.3 seconds. These enhancements lead to substantial productivity gains by reducing part cycle times and increasing throughput. The machines are equipped with a standard 18.5kW/15,000rpm directly-coupled spindle, capable of efficiently processing a wide range of materials. For more demanding applications, options include a 30kW/15,000rpm/230N-m high-torque spindle or a 37kW/20,000rpm high-speed spindle.

In terms of accuracy and precision, the DVF 5000 second-generation machines feature advanced oil-cooling systems and strategically placed sensors that monitor thermal displacement. This ensures minimal thermal expansion and drift during machining. The inclusion of precision roller-type LM guideways and high-accuracy 0.0001 degree B- and C-axis rotational mechanisms, along with the optional IKC (Intelligent Kinematic Compensation) system, guarantees precision even over extended use. These features make the DVF 5000 series particularly suitable for industries requiring high precision, such as aerospace and automotive manufacturing.

The machines also offer greater flexibility and versatility. With a 26% increase in table size, accommodating workpieces up to 600mm in diameter and 500mm in height, and a 32% increase in the machining envelope, the DVF 5000 series provides ample space for larger workpieces. The larger work envelopes and extended travels facilitate the integration of automated work load/unload systems, including DN Solutions' compact AWC (Automatic Workpiece Changer), enabling 24/7 unmanned operations.

Operator convenience has not been overlooked. The machines can be fitted with Fanuc, Siemens, or Heidenhain CNC control systems, all featuring accelerated data and PLC processing speeds. The Fanuc control option includes a collision prevention system that monitors axis feeds, spindle dynamics, and the workpiece in real-time to prevent collisions and downtime. Additional improvements include a relocated front-positioned tool magazine window for better tool set-up, reduced operator-to-work table distance for easier job setups, and six flood coolant nozzles for heat control and chip removal.

As standard, the DVF 5000 second-generation machines come with a grease lubrication system that reduces oil consumption, making them more environmentally friendly. This aligns with the growing emphasis on sustainable manufacturing practices.
