Show availability: The system will be demonstrated at IMTS 2026 at Quality Assurance booths 134314 and 134524.

  • Extended reach: The PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system delivers over 50% more inspection reach than the original PH20 head, with up to 300 mm working length using a 50 mm stylus.
  • Redesigned hardware: A new kinematic mount supports longer probe configurations, adding 107 mm of reach for features deep inside parts.
  • Backwards compatibility: Existing TP20 probe modules (excluding the extended force module) work via the PB20 adaptor, protecting current tooling and part programmes.
  • Automation-ready: A new modular rack system on an MRS2 rail enables automated probe module changing, with full UCC controller compatibility.

Renishaw has introduced the PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), positioned as a direct replacement for its established PH20 head. The headline figure is hard to ignore: over 50% increase in inspection reach compared to the original PH20 head. For shops that have hit the physical limits of their existing probing setups, that's a meaningful change in what a CMM can actually touch.

Building on a Proven Platform

The original PH20 touch-trigger system was launched in 2010 and utilizes head motion technology from the REVO® 5-axis measurement system. It found broad adoption thanks to its 5-axis infinite positioning, inferred calibration routines, and automatic changing of TP20 probe modules.

The PH20 PLUS system doesn't abandon that foundation — it extends it. The system was launched specifically to improve access to features deep inside parts and in hard-to-reach areas, the kind of geometry that has historically forced workarounds or secondary operations.

"With PH20 PLUS, we've focused on extending capability which we think will appeal to both existing PH20 customers and those with measurement requirements which could previously not be met by the existing head," said Nathan Fielder, Product Manager at Renishaw.

Where the Extra Reach Comes From

The gain comes from a redesigned kinematic mount that supports longer probe configurations. With a 50 mm stylus, the PH20 PLUS head offers a maximum working length of up to 300 mm — an additional 107 mm of reach over the original system. That translates directly into a larger accessible measurement volume.

New PE20 modules, based on the TP20 probe system, provide the direct interface for these longer configurations. Critically for existing users, the PH20 PLUS system is compatible with the existing range of TP20 modules (excluding the extended force module), via the PB20 adaptor — so established stylus configurations, part programmes, and tooling investment carry over.

Automated Module Changing and Integration

The system includes a new modular rack system for automated probe module changing, mounting to an MRS2 rail on the CMM bed or machine frame. The powered PCR20 rack offers a standalone option for holding multiple modules and accessories.

Integration is deliberately low-friction: the PH20 PLUS system is fully compatible with Renishaw's UCC controller, making it a drop-in replacement for existing installations.
