Renishaw Pushes Touch-Trigger Reach to 300 mm with New PH20 PLUS 5-Axis System

Renishaw has introduced the PH20 PLUS 5-axis touch-trigger system for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), a replacement for the established PH20 head that targets one of the most persistent constraints in tactile metrology: reach. The new system delivers an over 50% increase in inspection reach compared to the original PH20, improving access to features deep inside parts and in hard-to-reach areas.

Building on a proven platform

The PH20 touch-trigger system was launched in 2010 and utilizes head motion technology from the REVO® 5-axis measurement system. The PH20 PLUS builds on the proven measurement capabilities of the PH20, enabling high-speed touch-trigger measurement — but extends the geometry.

The key hardware change is a redesigned kinematic mount that supports longer probe configurations. With a 50 mm stylus, the PH20 PLUS head offers a maximum working length of up to 300 mm — the figure that defines the system's positioning against its predecessor.

Compatibility is the pitch to existing users

For shops already invested in the PH20 ecosystem, the transition story matters as much as the reach numbers. The PH20 PLUS system is compatible with the existing range of TP20 modules, excluding the extended force module. Alongside the head itself, the system includes a new modular rack system for automated probe module changing, and it is fully compatible with Renishaw's UCC controller.
